In chess, the objective is to declare “check mate” against the opponent where the opponent has no room to move. From a human perspective, who is Russia trying to ‘check mate’ by being specifically in Syria? The West? The US? Israel? China? All the above?

In the New Testament book of James, the distinction between the importance of words versus that of actions is clearly seen. The entirety of the book contrasts the verbal acknowledgment of faith and the requisite actions that genuinely prove/demonstrate one’s faith. Why is that distinction so important?

In November 2015 there was an article in the Washington Times with the title “U.S. ‘discriminates’ against Christian refugees, accepts 96% Muslims, 3% Christians.” The author of that article pointed out that of the thousands of Syrian refugees being accepted to our country, only 3% were Christians, and 96% were Muslims. In an interesting turn of events an article earlier this month in the Washington Examiner has this title “In switch, Trump favors Christian refugees 6-1 over Muslims.” In it the author, Paul Bedard, writes, “Since the fiscal year began, 60 percent of new refugees admitted into the United States have been Christian, and just 13 percent Muslim.” Why has there been a major shift in refugees under the Trump administration?
