Protesting the National Anthem

What are the reasons for the dramatic decline in appropriate/fitting patriotism? Beyond that, the outright demeaning of our nation and its symbols? “Why don’t these NFL players boycott the game, rather than the flag and the National Anthem?”. Why is it the flag and the Anthem? How do we change this declining appropriate love of country–(1) How does the NFL do that (even if they are interested in doing so)? (2) American home? (3) Church?
