Liberty Sunday: 2026

As America celebrates her 250th birthday this year, we invite you and your family to join churches across the nation in observing Liberty Sunday on July 5th.
At a time when religious liberty is increasingly misunderstood, ignored, and even challenged, Liberty Sunday serves as an important opportunity for pastors and congregations to pause, reflect, and give thanks for the freedoms we enjoy as Americans—and to recognize the biblical foundation upon which true liberty rests.
Our nation’s founders understood that liberty was not the absence of restraint, but freedom under God. They believed that rights come from our Creator, not government. Today, however, many Americans take these blessings for granted, while others actively work to redefine freedom apart from biblical truth. That is why Liberty Sunday is so important.
This year’s emphasis comes during a historic season as our nation commemorates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The American Pastors Network is encouraging churches to use this occasion to teach the next generation about the spiritual and historical roots of America’s freedoms and to remind believers of their responsibility to preserve and proclaim liberty for future
generations.
On a recent Stand in the Gap Today broadcast, Sam Rohrer and I discussed this year’s Liberty Sunday theme which is, “Faithful in Freedom: Living for Christ in a Contested Culture”(Listen to this broadcast HERE).  We warned that liberty can never be assumed or neglected and emphasized that when people forget the source of liberty and fail to defend it, freedom itself becomes fragile.
To help pastors and churches participate, we’ve provided valuable resources, including:
• Suggested sermon outlines and talking points
• A Liberty Sunday prayer guide
• Patriotic and worship music suggestions
• Historical resources related to America’s founding
• Special radio programming and interviews
These materials are designed to help congregations better understand both the blessings and responsibilities that accompany religious freedom.
We encourage you to speak with your pastor today about participating in Liberty Sunday on July 5th. Pray for our churches, our leaders, and our nation. Invite others to attend. Most importantly, ask God to revive a love for truth, righteousness, and liberty in America once again.
