America Is Our Nation, Blessed by God

As President-Elect Donald Trump builds his new administration, we can look at the liberal media and the political Establishment class who are still scratching their heads about the election results.

As a pastor, an observer of history, and a former legislator, however, I’ve had a different way of looking at the huge defeat handed to Democrats on Nov. 8.

Let’s look at just a few of the reasons the “blue wall” was torn down, the philosophy of globalism was rejected, and the playground of elite Establishment was obliterated. And let’s consider a few of the motivating factors that allowed folks in the quiet of the voting booth to so uniformly choose as they did:

1.) Natural law hasn’t changed.
Most people of faith have an external set of principles for making judgments when it comes to matters of truth and morality. Whether it is the Bible or some other holy book, a confession of faith or a catechism that teaches principles through a series of questions or answers, these documents serve as foundational and presuppositional documents by which all matters are judged.

They are the anchor for thoughts and actions. They define what is good and bad, and the truth contained in them has been proven again and again over time.

Truth to us is not relative. It is not to be switched out for Marxism, One-World-ism or situational morality.

2.) The God-given rights and dignity of humans have not changed.

We have collectively hit our tipping point in terms of tolerance for those who want to tear down the nation our grandparents and parents fought and died for so that we may live free. We rejected the governmental “nanny state” and chose to be the rugged individualists who will work hard, take care of our families, and practice our faith freely. After all, that’s why many of our forebears left the declining kingdoms of Europe and the realm of those who would deny our religious freedom.

3.) Basic man hasn’t changed.
Because the basic nature of man has not changed over the thousands of years of recorded history, we understand the importance of recognizing the unchanging rights and God-given freedoms guaranteed by our Constitution. We do not need a Supreme Court “discovering” new rights in the Constitution and creating law between the clauses.

That process has led to the killing of millions of unborn children simply because two people chose not to be responsible in the control of their sexual proclivities.

4.) America’s strength comes from law and order.

The Nazis, the Red Russians, Chinese, Koreans, and others launched their creation of godless, humanistic, brutal, and freedom-less societies by trashing the social order, taking over medical care, and seizing large parts of national economies. Their efforts to try to build utopia flies in the face of the nature of man who abhors bondage, the destruction of families and religion, and the taking away from the common man the rewards of his hard labor to support a corrupt, power-hungry elite.

Men work better with the carrot and not the stick, with meaningful work to preserve their dignity — not a dole-level handout — and with the freedom to create and build families that they can point to as a God-given legacy.

5.) We were lied to, we were threatened, and we were bullied.
Since the end of World War II, there have been political leaders who looked at citizens as animals produced by evolution and placed on the Earth to be used, abused, and destroyed in a quest for power — when God placed them on this Earth to make it into a better place for all of God’s creation. So, we looked at our founding documents — the Bible, the Mayflower Compact, the Declaration, the Constitution, and the writings of the founders — and we saw what America was supposed to be about.

We looked at the institutions of government and judged them according to the original design. And we looked at where the political party candidates wanted to take us and we said, “No — no more! You are through. It’s time for a ‘recalibration.'”

America is our nation. It was blessed by God and created by our collective work, sweat, and blood. It’s not owned by the elites or the globalists or the people who flood across our borders to plunder, pillage, and loot. God knows we’ve always been generous to the whole world — even sometimes to our own detriment.

Yes, all our people are flawed. A depraved nature and sin does that.

That’s why God created repentance and forgiveness. We saw at the top of one ticket a person who admitted failures but also pledged to uphold the founders’ wishes. We saw on the other ticket a selfish, pathological liar who wanted power more than anything and to obey her own direction rather than submitting to what God and the founders said we should do.

And we chose what we thought would be the party to lead us back to the foundations and into the future. It was a leap of faith and a step toward principles that have always brought out the best in Americans — humility, repentance, truth, compassion, hard work, and personal faith. And we voted.

As Alexis de Tocqueville said long ago, America is great because America is good. And if America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. Let’s make America great again together.
